John is a registered counselling and organisational Psychologist with over twenty years’ experience gained across government and community mental health services and the corporate sector.
John specialises in adult individual therapy, and his areas of expertise and interest include: depression and other mood disorders; anxiety and anxiety disorders; grief and loss related to life transition, new life roles, challenging life events and related adjustment issues; relationship issues including separation/family breakdowns and challenging workplace relationships; trauma including post-traumatic stress disorders; career assessment and management and workplace & executive coaching.
Other areas of interest for John are issues related to sexual identity and minority stress, and working with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Throughout his career, John has been involved in community development, human rights advocacy and social justice and the promotion of mental health, especially within the workplace.
John is a warm and personable therapist, with a keen genuine interest in and concern for his clients, and an attuned sensitivity to their needs. John places a high value on conducting therapy in a way that is flexible and relevant to the unique needs of individuals. John sees the therapist-client relationship as core to the healing process.
John is committed to utilising evidence-based, scientifically effective treatments, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
John is also an accredited workplace mediator and conflict resolution practitioner and has completed postgraduate studies in management and adult education.
John is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and specialist Colleges of Counselling Psychology and Organisational Psychology.
